5. Killzone: Shadow Fall

As a long running series since its days on PlayStation 2, Killzone remains a fantastical masterpiece set in a future where the Helghan's aka the Helghast (think Nazi Germany without mass genocide of their own people) have gone to war against the ISA (Interplanetary Strategic Alliance, think NATO). The title takes place almost directly after the events of Killzone 3, which left the planet Helghan uninhabitable after a new type of weapon was deployed. The event is known as the Terracide.

After the events of Killzone 3, players get to take on a much different world where the Helghan survivors have taken sanctuary on the ISA planet of Vekta. Here, the two civilizations live in peace with a wall - dubbed The Wall - separating the two civilizations.

Unfortunately, the tenuous peace doesn't remain for long as the old war once more breaks out and sends players across New Helghan and Vekta in order to stop the war from ravaging another planet. With all the DLC available, Killzone: Shadow Fall will keep fans busy for hour as they attempt to stop another Petrusite detonation (the weapon from KZ3) and going online against other players via the game's top-of-the-line multiplayer.

5. The Last of Us: Remastered

Many gamers have played, or at least heard about Naughty Dog's hit masterpiece. The game takes place in a post-apocalypse where an unseemly source of infection has turned the world into chaos. People are turning into monstrosities due to an aggressive fungus that has begun to infect humans, turning them into zombies.

With the world in chaos, players take the role of Ellie and Joel - two unlikely people to team up on a father-daughter-like trip through a world we once knew. The title has won more than ten awards since it's 2013 launch on PlayStation 3 ranging from BAFTA Best Game, BAFTA Best Game for Story Award to Writers Guild of America Award for Achievement in Videogame Writing. These accolades are well-deserved, as the game's narrative, gameplay, sound, and acting are all fantastic.

With the bone-chilling guitar work of famed composer Gustavo Santaolalla, The Last of Us comes to life in many ways that we'd never imagine. Like many zombie games, the infected and other survivors can be just as dangerous. The game features all previously released content for both campaign as well as multiplayer, new multiplayer content, and upgraded graphics to fit the current-gen expectations of gamers. The title runs at an astoundingly beautiful 1080p with 60 frames per second smoothness.

3. Bloodborne

Known as one of the hardest titles to launch on PlayStation 4, Bloodborne follows suit in the tradition of the "Souls" franchise, which places it as one of the must-haves for PlayStation 4 owners. Developed in collaboration between both Sony Studio Japan and From Software, Bloodborne takes players through a fantasy-horror setting within what could be considered the early to mid-1800's where players have been tasked with going on a quest known as "The Hunt."

The location is a Gothic city known as Yharnam. The city was one that people would seek thanks to its medical advances in using blood as primary tool of healing. This encouraged travelers to journey from all over in order to find a remedy to cure their afflictions. For the character? This meant seeking out something dubbed as "Paleblood." Truth is? Well, that's for you to discover as you fight your way through a plague-ravaged Yharnam.

The combat is much like any Souls title for those who have played them. The game fits in a new combat mechanic featuring guns, secondary weapon forms, and even a cooperative mode for friends to join each other on their hunts. For fans of Lovecraftian horror, this game will be a must-have.

2. Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn/Heavensward

MMOs have long been an imaginary thing on consoles. With few games having successfully done this feat (Final Fantasy XI Online, Phantasy Star Universe); it's hard to imagine a world where MMO's would be at that point in time. Luckily Square Enix has shown us exactly where MMOs can find a home with their smash-hit Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn/Heavensward. It'll also help hold you over till the launch of Final Fantasy XV this fall.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn/Heavensward takes place in the world of Hydaelyn. The player, as you would expect, creates a character that will be able to live within this world, take on multiple jobs (classes) as well as explore the world around them in multiple instances of quests, dungeons, group scenarios, PvP, and more as they explore the region of Eorzea, which they are set to protect. This realm has multiple climates that range from the Thanalan Desert, where Ul'dah the capital city resides, to the dense thickets of Gridania, known only as the Black Shroud.

The adventure will ultimately lead to players fending off the Garlean Empire and saving Eorzea with the help of the Crystal and the powers that reside within them. The game does feature multiple forms of subscription fees that players can choose from when selecting their account payment types.

1. No Man's Sky

If there's any game out there that sought to do the impossible, No Man's Sky by developer Hello Games has done so. The game focuses on a narrative where you play as an explorer. Your travels will take you across planets where you will discover new flora and fauna that have never been experienced elsewhere, literally. You will travel across seemingly limitless planets, stars, and aliens.

Players will learn alien languages, discover forgotten locations, and harvest items to craft upgrades while managing their inventory. The game also features an absolutely haunting and beautiful score. While combat does happen, the game clearly emphasizes exploration. Will you have what it takes to earn the units (money) needed to explore the deepest reaches of outer space and find your way to the center of an endless universe?
