Short answer: All of them are great, so play them all if you can!

Long answer if you can only get one or two: read on.

We've all faced a decision like this at some point in our lives, a decision between several potential options. For gamers, its a two-fold decision that makes us question how many $60 games we can buy while still having money left to buy Mountain Dew and Totinos Pizza Rolls. Currently, any gamer who has any sort of affinity towards the FPS genre knows that the biggest decision to make this year is between Battlefield 1, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, and Titanfall 2.

Each game has pros and cons, but regardless these are the definitive games to own this year, and you should make sure to get all three games this year and here's why:

Release Date: November 4th, 2016

Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, PC

The Call of Duty franchise is one of the most well known in the industry, as it has spawned countless games over the last 13 years. The franchise truly sparked massive appeal with the introduction of Modern Warfare (which is available as a remastered version with the special editions of Infinite Warfare). Through the various games, we've been introduced to many of the following aspects:

  • A captivating story
  • Incredible multiplayer content
  • Extensive customization and optimization
  • Survival and Zombie modes

When you put all these things together, you have one of the most compelling first person shooters out there, and the newest iteration is no different. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is set to take all the standard components that we know and love, but clean it all up and give it an overhaul. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is going to be a refresher to the series that some players have felt has gotten stale with the shift into a more futuristic setting.

Yet, even though Infinite Warfare follows in the advancement of war, as it progresses into space, it allows for some incredible new gameplay. This new gameplay is what gives the franchise a facelift in a sense, and that is something that many fans will appreciate.

Who Should Play: Infinite Warfare is a fast-paced game for people who love the idea of kill-streaks and Zombies in space.

Release Date: October 21st, 2016

Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, PC

Battlefield has been a huge hit since it stepped into the gaming world in 2002 with Battlefield 1942 for Windows and Mac before introducing Battlefield 2: Modern Combat in 2005 for the PlayStation 2, Xbox and Xbox360. Battlefield has always been seen as the 'hardcore' game in the First Person Shooter genre as compared to the 'quick hitter' of COD. Some of the pivotal aspects of the Battlefield franchise have been:

  • Large battle environments
  • Intense combat
  • Realistic gun mechanics
  • Control over several massive-scale vehicles

These are the parts of the Battlefield series that drive fans to their consoles to step into these games. Battlefield 1 is primed to be a massive advancement for the series in general. Even though the series is stepping back in time to World War 1, we are going to experience the brutal trench warfare, unprecedented aerial combat and massive battlegrounds to traverse.

Battlefield 1 is set to dive headfirst into the history of World War 1 like no series has attempted before.

Who Should Play: Battlefield 1 is a game for those who enjoy the fresh WW1 setting, love realistic gunplay mechanics, and want to ride horses or pilot a giant zeppelin.

Release: October 28th, 2016

Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, PC

Although Respawn, the development team behind Titanfall, made a few mistakes (in the fans opinion) with the initial game, it still earned several awards and accolades when it arrived in 2013. Yet even though Titanfall was praised by critics, many felt that it fell short in terms of actually having any sort of campaign, and it never really got off the ground as an alternative to games like Battlefield or Call of Duty.

  • Parkour elements (adopted later by Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare)
  • Massive mech combat
  • Appearance customization

These elements have awarded Titanfall 2 a lot of hype considering that it's still the only game of it's kind to incorporate the elements that we love within the FPS genre but add the ability to pilot giant Gundam style mechas. Titanfall 2 is incorporating a true single player campaign which delves into the relationship between Titan and pilot.

Who Should Play: Titanfall 2 will resonate with people who want to step out of the COD vs. Battlefield war entirely, step into a giant robot with lasers on its head, and parkour as you run-n-gun on foot.

So there you have it, your answer depending on what you're looking for, but if you're like me you'll probably make every attempt to own each game.
