Yugioh: Ghettoest Card Game Ever

Top Five Reasons Why It's So Ghetto

In a previous article, I wrote about the worst video game companies, there was a reference to Yugioh and its parent company, Konami. Now, I will dive deeper into the god awful nature of the Yugioh community and what has been seen by similar communities as the most toxic group of individuals ever. Yugioh is a beloved anime by thousands, if not millions, of people across the globe. The game as well hosts international tournaments to see who is the best duelist across the planet. With that competitive nature comes a cost, though one Yugioh players pay higher than any other community. Here are my top five reasons Yugioh is the ghettoest card game ever.

Though it does not happen often, this does happen. People get mad, say some choice words they shouldn’t have, and want to fight one another. It’s another thing when people actually start to assault one another over these altercations over a children’s card game. And it happens for various reasons; such as for stealing someone’s cards, destroying someone’s cards/property, or even as simple as insulting someone. I would know, I almost punched a dude over insulting me, my cards, and his girlfriend for losing to me. Simply put, we down to fight over the most mundane of things.

With any game, there will be cheaters. This is unfortunately the extreme of cases as Yugioh has a severe cheating problem as a disappointing large portion of championship winners are often found cheating, even in front of judges and audiences. It’s said that if you won a championship, chances are that you cheated. This is not the rule however, as one of Yugioh’s beloved champions named Billy Blake has been known for not cheating and is loved by his community (myself included). Despite the charisma Mr. Blake has shown, few would eventually follow in his footsteps.

So if you have anything worth something, chances are someone might steal it from you. This holds especially true for the Yugioh community as there are so many videos on YouTube about stealing. From personal stories, to national events, to even your local stores selling Yugioh products. Chances are someone stole from there. It had gotten so bad and so out of hand that I’ve seen card shops stop selling Yugioh products for how often there were being robbed for solely Yugioh cards. Simply put; a Yugioh player will steal your stuff when given the chance, but not everyone will steal from you.

Now when I talk about toxicity, I am not only referring to the salty nature of things whenever you lose to the most obscure things. I also mean how some Yugioh players have an issue with personal hygiene and public mannerism. I have dueled against them all; the salty players, the entitled players, the weird players who actually dressed up for a locals event (including a pirate and a cultist), and even the players who haven’t showered in god knows when! People will fight, people will steal, but goddamn it, people will not consider personal hygiene as a standard part of care. To add insult to injury; my locals stopped hosting Yugioh events after the winners decided to take their winning prizes, and cut with scissors all the cards they didn’t want and throw them away. Just so no one else could use them. All in all, Yugioh is the most toxic community to ever exist!

Konami I feel is to blame for a lot wrong with its community as it often offends and demoralizes its player base with god awful support for a consistent message, overpowered cards that need to be removed from the game, and terrible prize support to force its players to find an alternative revenue because you cannot be a professional Yugioh player unlike in similar card games. Konami will often ignore any and all feedback it feeds its players and do whatever it wants, including new affordable booster packs and a good online platform to play Yugioh. We at least have a ban list to help put away cards that lead to overpowered metas, but it doesn’t help when some other overpowered cards remain on the competitive scene and ban pointless cards like Elemental Hero Stratos (#freemyniggastratos). Icing to this terrible cake is how unreasonably expensive this game can be, with one deck at its peak costing over $2,000 for 40 cards. That is some peoples' whole paycheck and rent. Konami abuses its player base for the simple purpose of taking as much money from them as possible. Like an abusive step-father who takes our lunch money to feed his addictions.
