We've been speculating about where #Ubisoft would take the Assassin's Creed franchise for the last two years, ever since we were slightly miffed by the European Industrial Age addition of Assassin's Creed: Syndicate. Now that's not saying that it's a bad game, we were just looking or something else.

So Ubisoft listened, and they broke their pattern of pushing a new game out in back-to-back years, and have taken the last two years to develop what has the potential to redefine the franchise and carve a path into the future for the Assassin and Templar war.

Over the last few months specifically, we've seen bits and pieces of the clues about the newest game appear across the internet: from developer comments to insider information, from screen captures to character designs. Regardless of the information, fans of the series have been anxiously waiting for the official announcement of what was coming. But we weren't expecting to get that announcement from Target.

Assassin's Creed IS heading to Egypt.

This is what we've believed for a while now, as it's pretty clear that we're in store for Assassin's Creed: Origins to be the next title in the franchise, but will take us back in time before the initial games.

According to a photo of a retail pre-order card posted on Reddit today, it seems pretty legit. We've reached out to sources at Ubisoft and are waiting for a reply.

The $1 pre-reservation card from Target gives fans a little detail into the game as we see a few familiar concepts:

  • The giant pyramid behind the Assassin's Creed Origins logo.
  • Along the left is the Great Sphinx of Giza, which seems to confirm that the game will be set in ancient Egypt as the Sphinx does not appear ravaged by sand and time.
  • Our protagonist also appears to match leaks from earlier in the month to be holding a bow and arrow, with shield strapped to his back.

The Along with the game details, it seems as though the editions that are so common among games lately won't be skipped over by Ubisoft, as a Gold Edition will be available giving players a deluxe pack, season pass and a collectable steel book.

Also by reserving early, it appears that players will receive a special bonus mission entitled "Secrets of the First Pyramids".

Could it be fake? The logo looks off.

There's always the chance as there's a glaring difference from what we know as of a week ago: Ubisoft's new flat, colorless logo. On this reservation placard the old blue swirl logo is printed, but it's not unreasonable to imagine that Ubisoft would have had these printed months ago, before Ubisoft officially finalized their logo design.
