E3 is one of the biggest gaming conferences in the world, offering three glorious days of developers and studios showcasing their exciting new games, with fans gathering to collectively geek out over all the upcoming titles.

One of the most hotly anticipated games is the upcoming Sony exclusive, Marvel's Spider-Man. As you could imagine, when Insomniac Games made its presentation at the E3 Coliseum, fans flocked to it. The developers filed onto the stage to talk about the game, but a few minutes in, the audience began shouting, "Fire! Fire!" Check it out below.

At first the event staff weren't sure what was going on because the fire wasn't immediately visible. Then they saw the smoke spilling from a spotlight.

After a pause, in which staff addressed the smoking spotlight, the panel continued around 30 minutes later, with the Insomniac team and #Marvel Digital Media discussing Spider-Man, one of the most anticipated Sony games of 2018. But this incident was reminiscent of the Webslinger's troubled history over the years.

This isn't the first such incident for a Spider-Man project.

#SpiderMan is one of the most beloved characters in the Marvel Universe, and as with many a comic book character, he's endured his fair share of poorly crafted projects. Yep, Spider-Man has had a few clunkers over the years — but of the many video games, films and animations, none were as doomed to failure as the 2010 musical Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark.

Yes, that was a real thing. From its initial development in 2005, the musical suffered countless issues and setbacks, with people believing the play was cursed. Between cast injuries, financial struggles and safety concerns, the musical was beset by one defeat after another.

The Spider-Man musical became synonymous with problems rather than music or talent. Luckily for us gamers, though, the small fire at #E3 isn't foreshadowing anything aside from the fact that, as Insomniac creative director Bryan Intihar put it, "This game is super hot."

There's currently no word on whether the blaze was Vulture's doing, or possibly Carnage stirring up trouble for Spidey. Regardless of who caused it, Spider-Man is set for release in 2018 for the #PlayStation4.
