The Chaotic Gamer Reviews: 'Spiderman'

'Spiderman' for PS4 (Spoiler Free Review)

As a youngster, I grew up reading my old man's comic books from the 60s and 70s. Spiderman, X-Men, Fantastic Four, etc. Like many millennials and 90s kids, the one that stood out the most for me was Spiderman.

Peter Parker was always a relatable character. The struggles he had as a teenage that transitioned into his adulthood. The double life as the intelligent student one minute and a web slinging super hero the next. That's what kept so many engaged. The thing about super hero stories is that the series and reboots change the story. The stories themselves have changed many times but the characters we know and love stay the same. The story in Spiderman developed by Insomniac Games for the PS4 console is no different.

Everything about this game is solid! And it's record breaking opening can attest to it. The fully interactive gameplay, the customizable and nostalgic Spidey suits and gadgets, the open world, etc.

Seriously. Who wouldn't want an open world game of their favorite super hero? (rhetorical). The game is loaded with exceptional storytelling and impeccable voice over acting. It features story missions, side missions, and challenges that can be played whenever the gamer sees fit (if at all). The game also allows gamers to engage in non-stop action, crime fighting throughout the city continuously while web slinging through the streets.

Though not spinning off the current cinematic Marvel universe, Spiderman for PS4 is completely stand alone. Instantly pulling us into an older Peter Parker struggling to battle a new and much more threatening Sinister Six. Fighting enemies both new and old, we control Spidey during a long haul of battles with some of the deadliest enemies he's faced. The story is completely different from the original The Amazing Spiderman. Instead, we are given a glimpse of a knew Peter Parker and a newer Spiderman all together (I'll leave it at that since this is spoiler free). For those familiar and fans of the Miles Morales Story from the newer comic book series, this won't disappoint. For those who aren't familiar, you're in for a surprise.

Did you completely nerd out and got the game the first weekend and beat it like I did? It's not over. In fact, it gets better! Insomniac has announced additional content. Three more DLC's will be released before the end of 2018. Featuring more enemies, story missions, side missions, etc.

Overall, an amazing game segment. A must for anyone who is as crazed for Spiderman as I am. Enjoy and swing high, gamers!
