Some Tips for Poker Beginners

In fact, the idea to go back to some fundamentals rules of poker came to me during a poker night with friends. There was a novice player at our table, and I realized how much I could have forgotten about how it feels to be a beginner in this game. And I'm not even talking about the terms that could be the subject of the game. In short, here is why I decided to return to poker basics. I wanted to start with five mistakes that many beginners can commit.

Your first mistake is you play more than you are willing to lose.

Poker is a money game and, therefore, can potentially hurt your wallet and morale. Even if talent plays an undeniable role, when we start, we must assume that luck is the number one factor. Also, I advise you to act as if you were in front of a slot machine, like you are zodiac casino winners, or placing sports bets, and play only what you are willing to lose. I think you have to play on the assumption that the money you have in front of you is lost. First, it will prevent you from paying entrance fees that are above your means, and secondly, you will approach the part of the unpleasant sensation of playing with your money.

You go in on every hand.

Poker is a discipline of patience. You can play forever without touching a drinking hand. But as a beginner, you cannot do what a pro player would do and you are not capable of winning with trash. It is better to play tight. And so, you have to wait. Playing tight is easy. But to wait for a good hand is a nightmare.

You think that luck is everything!

I just said that luck had a big impact on you, simple beginner. But that does not mean that poker is all a game of luck. Poker is, above all, a game of probability. This means that you can win with a 7-2 trash can against aces, but you have a lot less chance to win. Really, a lot less.

You don't change the number of your bets.

This one is a bit more technical, but it is important. Most poker beginners tend to bet big when they have a big hand and vice versa. It's obvious, but it makes your game transparent. When you do not control the bet and raise sizes, it is better to stick to a regularity—between two-and-a-half and three times the amount of the big blind for a first round bet. For raises and re-raises, it is more difficult because it depends on the amount of the mat—and the bet and profile of the players—but what must be remembered is that you have to be careful, as not to correlate the amount to the value of your hand.

Your biggest mistake: You do not take into account your position at the table.

The position in poker is paramount. The reason is simple: The more information you have about other players, the more likely you are to make the best decision. And the only way to get the most information is to be the last to speak. If you are a beginner, play tighter (with good hands) than you are at the beginning of the word, then try some "moves" in the last positions (button, cut-off).
