"You Have Been Kicked From the Game"

Why Playing LittleBigPlanet 2 Online is a Pain

This is cute little video that was actually made in LittleBigPlanet 2, that shows some of the annoying things that people can do in the game.

LittleBigPlanet 2 is the sequel to LittleBigPlanet, and to most, it is considered the best installment in the LittleBigPlanet series. However, the online community isn't the best at times. If you're lucky, you'll run into a great group of players and make friends with them as you journey through community content. However, if you're unlucky like myself (and many others), you'll find that playing online is a very unpleasant experience.... And here's why:

1.) People don't seem to be familiar with "Privacy Settings"

When playing LittleBigPlanet 2 (or any game in the series) you can see your various options when you pause the game. If you go into your settings, you have "Privacy Settings". There are three things to alter in this section: What the game should do if you play a level with other players in it, what the game should do if your friends try to join you, and what the game should do if anyone else tries to join you. For the options involving your friends and other players, there are three different options available: Always ask (You will be asked every time your friends/other players try to join your game), Auto-Accept (Your friends/other players will always join automatically without asking you), and Auto-Reject (Your friends/Other players are automatically rejected without asking you). That being said, players seem to disregard these settings, as players that join using the "Dive In!" feature, or any other means are kicked immediately after being given the permission to join the game.

2.) People are not familiar with the "Dive In!" feature.

The "Dive In!" feature is used to join random players that are online in LittleBigPlanet 2, similar to LittleBigPlanet's "Quick Play". I am a frequent user of the "Dive In!" feature. When I am actually connected to another group of players, they often ask how I even got to them, or they respond angrily that I showed up... Which results in being kicked from the game most of the time.

3.) Player matchmaking isn't done well it seems...

When using the "Dive In!" feature, the server will tell you who it attempts to connect you to, and then tell you if they either allow you to join them, reject you, or if the request times out. The reason that I say that the matchmaking isn't done well, is because the server always tries to connect you to players that have already rejected you, or players that you have already played with.

4.) It seems no one knows what the "Good Grief!" feature is either.

The "Good Grief!" feature is a feature that is used to report troublesome behaviors from other players (by troublesome, I mean usage of profanity, sexual themes, threats, hacking, etc.). It can be accessed by pressing "select" on your controller. I feel like people don't actually know about this feature because I don't remember it being in any tutorials, and I don't think it actually is used because I still see a lot of profanity and other mature content being used by other players. Instead, I see players arguing with each other. Another thing to add, is that to my knowledge, players who say offensive things using a mic cannot be reported, as there is no way to report audio.

5.) Communicating

If you're anything like me, you like typing in-game, as opposed to using a mic for one reason or another. Some people in LittleBigPlanet 2 with mics will either make fun of your slow typing, or kick you for not having a mic. If you have your settings set to where you will not hear people with mics, you will most likely not know why you are kicked, as there is no way to know anyone has a mic with the setting turned off.

Furthermore, LittleBigPlanet 2 is a worldwide game, so many people are kicked for not speaking the same language as the host.

You could also potentially get kicked from the game for not talking at all.

6.) People being annoying on purpose

Something fun but annoying if abused, is "slapping". You are able to slap other players, and its super funny at times, but not if you come across people who constantly slap you and leave you unable to play. Some people are able to slap so fast, that your character is unable to get up. It takes skill to actually get free.

Then there's the people who like taking up the whole screen by pulling out a sticker, and making it as large as possible. Oftentimes, the sticker is offensive in some way.

Finally, the people who make a big deal out of being the last person alive in a multiplayer game. Instead of hurrying to the checkpoint so the other players can play again, they start making their avatar dance around, and they constantly stop to do so on their way to the checkpoint. This can also be accompanied by smack talk.

7.) Connection Issues

Disconnection from the host, or other players happens more often than not. Either someone suddenly becomes the leader because the host is gone, or the game diverges. This isn't always because of bad internet, it can happen from the game itself. Its quite annoying to have to deal with.

If you decide you want to play any of the LittleBigPlanet games online, keep in mind that while the above instances may happen to you, playing online is a fun experience. While playing online can be tedious, it can also be a lot of fun.
